Alliance Workshops Offer Wealth of Resources The New York Citywide School to Work Alliance has completed its first round of workshops on building effective school-business partnerships and advisory councils. The fall 2003 workshops, which oriented school administrators to the School to Work Alliance's partnership building workbook and prepared them to facilitate planning groups at their schools, were met with great enthusiasm. Throughout the workshops, participants looked at ways to break down the daunting project of building and managing school-business partnerships and implemented tools for an effective step-by-step process. Using the workbook as a guide, they practiced identifying potential partnerships, planning partnership activities that support school goals, and formulating a pitch to present to businesses. Participants are currently bringing these good habits to their planning groups and facilitating the activities. Network Support Groups are provided by the Alliance throughout this process for troubleshooting and recognition. Currently, the second round of workshops is underway, as well as planning for a third round in the spring. People who are interested in attending should contact the School to Work Alliance at 212.803.3334. The School to Work Alliance thanks Con Edison for their generous underwriting of the workshops.
