What is the School to Work Alliance?

The New York Citywide School to Work Alliance is an independent, non-profit support center for building and sustaining school-business partnerships that foster career readiness in New York City high schools. The STW Alliance serves as an intermediary between public schools that are preparing students for careers in the contemporary workplace and businesses that want to be involved in career exploration and development.

We do this by:

The New York Citywide School to Work Alliance was established in 1996 in response to national school to work legislation. At the heart of the school to work philosophy is the belief that today's workplace requires more sophisticated skills--reading, writing, math, technology, and interpersonal skills. School to work motivates students to take on this learning challenge by providing opportunities for them to learn about future career opportunities and to see how classroom learning relates to future career choices. School to work encourages learning methodologies that require students to apply what they have learned to solve problems they would confront at the workplace and in the world in general.
